Shanghar: A remote natural gem hidden in the lap of Indian Himalayas in the GHNP (Great Himalayan National Park) eco zone in Sainj valley of Kullu district of state of Himachal Pradesh. Shanghar (शांघड़) ,also wrongly called as as Shangarh or Shangher, boasts of an amazingly scenic vast meadow surrounded by dense pine forest with magnificent Shenshar, Banaugi and Stogni ranges in the backdrop. As per local tale, during Mahabharat Times, Pandavas came here during their exile period and purified Shangharh meadow to cultivate rice, and that’s the reason the soil has no stones even if you dig deep. After the Pandavas left, the place was taken over by the demons and they settled here and is said they were defeated and finished by Shangchul Mahadev from Kinnaur, who henceforth owned the Shangharh meadow on paper and himself settled at a extended part of the meadow in a classical Himalayan wooden temple. The temple is now surrounded by few village houses.
Sara Lake: A beautiful small lake situated at 9000ft and approximately 4-5hrs hike up from Shanghar. The trail leading to the lake is through the beautiful forest and is a beautiful day hike.
